Between collage, photography and painting, Lobo Velar de Irigoyen constructs a visual language that is both instinctive and unrestrained. Each work invites the viewer to explore the intimacy of everyday life, while offering a slightly offbeat perspective on the images we preserve in memory – or believe we do. His artistic world is defined by a constant tension between abstraction, fragmented narrative and a lingering sense of incompleteness.

Background & Practice

Born in Argentina in 1978, Lobo Velar de Irigoyen began his career as a photographer in 1998. He quickly made a name for himself in the fields of fashion and editorial photography, all the while developing a distinctive artistic language centred around direct intervention on his own images.

In his creative process, he combines cut-outs from personal photographs with added materials, paint, or pencil – a way of “drawing with memory”, as he describes it, while embracing “error as a human gesture”. Each composition becomes a kind of testing ground, an attempt to inhabit the present through traces of the past.

“I choose to use the pieces that tell less than most of the story…” – a method that invites the viewer to fill in the gaps, or perhaps get lost in them.

Exhibitions & Recognition

Lobo Velar de Irigoyen’s work has been exhibited on multiple occasions, both in Argentina and internationally, in solo and group shows alike. He also continues to collaborate on various editorial projects, where his hybrid approach finds its natural place.

In 2025, he was named one of the 10 Artists to Watch, a distinction that affirms the growing resonance of his work. From his studio, he relentlessly pursues a balance between chance and construction, raw gesture and narrative subtlety.
