Born in 1973, Laurent Marty graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. His painting, with organic shapes and vibrant colors, plays with the ambiguity of planes to question the relationship of the figure to the background.
An Abstract and Figurative Approach
His work has been selected for the Salon de Montrouge, November in Vitry, Jeune Création, and has been awarded by the Fondation Regards de Provence. His works have also been shown at the French Cultural Center in Seoul (South Korea). Laurent Marty lives and works in Marseille.
"At the crossroads of an abstract and figurative approach lies the painting of Laurent Marty. Both a stumbling block and a stone of meditation, the rigorous chromatic research leads the eye to the primary opposition of man to matter. The apparent games of opposition between the background and the form, constructed in a raw and uncompromising manner, lead the viewer to a deep questioning of what the image provokes within oneself. Each painting then manages to capture, in its own modality, an 'unbearable lightness of being'. It is a painting that absorbs us in our enigmas, wanders us through our silences. It is a beginning rather than an end." (Céline Dénarié)
