Kimberley Gundle

Kimberley Gundle has her finger on the pulse of life, she reflects on our fragile existence through her creative practice. Portraits of people have always been central to her focus. For the past forty-five years she has been documenting the people who surround her. Gundle is known for her bold and vibrant use of colour, she works across an extensive range of media including sculpture, ceramics, printing, painting, and drawing to create her visual world.

Gundle was invited to showcase her artworks documenting the Maasai tribe of Kenya and Tanzania. She exhibited this series of artwork at Palazzo Bembo as part of the Venice Biennale in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

On 20th March 2020 when Covid -19 changed our world, Gundle started a visual diary, documenting Life in the Time of Covid 19, to navigate the present and document the daily impact that this virus was having on our lives. She posts a visual thought each day on Instagram, these images continue to connect her to the outside world and reach beyond the boundaries of isolation. She published a limited edition artist book entitled Navigating the Maze. each book is accompanied by a talismanic companion.

How is the Weather in Your Head? is the title of an ongoing series of hand built ceramic sculptures informed by her sketches on the London underground and her visual thoughts.

Gundle has also created a series paintings placed in coloured Perspex frames giving them a glowing icon-like quality.
