Soumisha Dauthel is a French painter. As well as painting, she is constantly renewing her media and techniques, and inventing new forms and formats. Since the 1990s, she has been assembling fragments of paintings to create unique works, playing with the boundaries between painting, sculpture and installation. By moving, transposing, permuting and combining elements from different canvases, with sometimes contradictory characteristics (colours, textures, shapes), she brings them together to create a unified whole. These abstract images give the viewer a direct experience of colour and matter. ‘Each fragment of canvas corresponds to a specific moment in my life as a painter.
