Sarah Evans

Born in 1978, British artist Sarah Evans is known for her modern architectural drawings. Most of the artist’s work focuses on reimagining post-war architecture – injecting character into modern buildings through vivid contemporary prints.

Evans’ 2017 collection, My Still Life, marks a departure from the artist’s signature architectural style, instead creating a series of hyperreal drawings of modern foodstuffs with a playful edge.

Celebrating the beauty of simple brutalist architecture is not hard to do, and has seen vast proliferation in recent years. Yet there is something else about Sarah's drawings and prints that bring a humanity and character to these often over-stereotyped facades. The texture of her pencil breathes life into these familiar scenes, and asks us to form a new, more intimate relationship with these iconic concrete blocks.
