More Works by Gokcen Ataman Tanyer
Gokcen Ataman Tanyer
Gokcen Ataman Tanyer is a Turkish visual artist based in London who creates work that explores the aesthetics, functionality, and problems of modern architecture. Many of Gokcen's works take the form of collages, in which she gives depth and texture to her designs. She most commonly uses found material, mainly cardboard, due to its symbolic representation of humanity's perpetual state of migration and transience.

Gokcen Ataman Tanyer's Education and Career

Gokcen spent much of her early career studying Fine Art. After graduating from Ted Ankara Koleji in 1998, she went on to earn her BA in Sculpture at Hacettepe University in Ankara before leaving Turkey for Canada, where she attended the Institute of Arts and Design at Humber College in Toronto. She has degrees in Graphic Design and UX Design. She is a recipient of the Sustainable Art Prize. Since graduating almost 15 years ago, Gokcen has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions throughout Istanbul, London, and many other cities. Currently, she lives in London as a global talent, contributing to the vibrant artistic community there.

Gokcen's Concept

Gokcen's works focus on humankind and our intricate relationship to our environment, utilising elements of urban landscapes such as buildings, streets, signs, seats, sometimes memories, myths, and stories. She uses the sense of not quite belonging to one place, encouraging viewers to embrace the world as their home and fostering a deeper connection to our global community and heritage.
