Alice Roy

Born in 1978 in Brittany to a family of artists, Alice Roy developed an affinity for drawing and visual expression from childhood. Her artistic journey begins with the experimentation of multiple techniques, including dry pastel, engraving, and gouache, gradually leaning towards acrylic painting, which allows her to play with the light and transparency effects characteristic of her style.

Today, as an artist, Alice Roy stands out with figurative works imbued with softness and timelessness that capture familiar scenes where every detail evokes a sense of serenity.

A contemporary and timeless view of Breton landscapes

Rooted in her place of life, the seaside resort of Pléneuf-Val-André, Alice Roy draws inspiration from the peaceful and timeless atmosphere of this Breton setting. Her structured and graphic compositions capture moments of daily life elevated by a low-hanging light that highlights the simplicity of the scene. Her palette of bright and warm colors adds a sense of tranquility to the whole, like an invitation to immerse oneself in a universal sweetness of life.

Her life scenes, populated by anonymous silhouettes, reveal moments frozen in time, deliberately omitting temporal markers and identifiable details. This absence of markers gives Alice Roy's works a universal dimension and invites the viewer to rediscover a soothing sense of déjà vu.

Influences marked by figurative art and light

Inspired by masters like Edouard Hopper for his ability to capture isolation and light, and Joaquin Sorolla for his work with colors and atmospheres, Alice Roy also draws from contemporary artists like Kim English and Peggy Kroll to nourish her figurative approach. This blend of influences gives her works a universal dimension, where the absence of temporal markers allows everyone to project their own memories.

Exhibitions and collaborations

Alice Roy exhibits her works year-round in the gallery La Boutik, at the port of Dahouët in Pléneuf-Val-André, and collaborates with living spaces such as La Balise in Granville and Salmanazar in Jullouville, where her paintings interact with the world of interior decoration.
