Muriel Buthier-Chartrain

Born in 1961, Muriel Buthier-Chartrain mainly painted in watercolor since 1981.
Since 1984, she has exhibited in France and abroad (Belgium, Sweden, Australia, China, Greece, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Lithuania). A full -time professional painter, she has been teaching watercolor since 2014 and is a member of the French Watercolor Society.
"Time for maturity, a lot of work for technical mastery: what it takes to a painter to finally be, understand that he is no other source of inspiration than his own feelings, the most buried, the more secret. My work has evolved, slowly, of course. It was done, as it should be done: increasingly refined, going towards the abstract, but supported by a technique always in research, an essential technique for the development of His own writing.
Express yourself by yourself, not being the pale reflection of someone else, without worrying about trends is in my opinion the only way to a sincere and singular painting. It is in this spirit that I have been painting for these long years, without concessions and with passion. "
If Muriel Buthier-Chartrain also painted in oil and mixed techniques, it is in watercolor that she prefers to express himself. She practices pure watercolor: water and colors. For a little over two years, she has been developing a technique to obtain unreasonable texture effects in watercolor. These textures are the result of how to use the colors according to the qualities of the pigments that compose them and how to work and associate them. His current work is the result of this research.
The work of Muriel Buthier-Chartrain immerses us in a mystery that knows no limits. The soft colors she uses reveal graceful and authentic abstractions. We particularly appreciate these effects of voluptuousness and matter which ensure a gesture full of technique and passion.
