Steve Drevet

Steve Drevet, born in 1974, is a self-taught artist, photographer, designer, writer, and professor of letters. After studying anthropology and literature, he spent several years in the Antilles, mainly on the island of Marie Galante. Currently residing in the Eastern Pyrenees, his creative approach and artistic experiments are nourished by hypnagogy and hiking, practices he has engaged in since a young age.

In 2008, he embarked on a journey through the American West, following the traces of writers who immortalized the landscapes he traversed, such as Edward Abbey and Cormac McCarthy. This trip ignited his passion for photography. Subsequently, he explored Europe, North Africa, Asia, and Australia in search of vast spaces and new images.

In 2010, Steve delved into studio photography, initially focusing on capturing archaeological objects for museums and foundations, including statuettes, dolls, masks from the primary art of the Americas, and the collection of Claude Parent-Saura. In 2013, he collaborated on the photographic story "L'Île des Chamans," which premiered at the Visa festival for the image in Perpignan and the Collège de France in art anthropology. The accompanying book, written by Steve Drevet, is slated for future publication.

Returning to his Catalan roots in 2014, he created the series "Els Guardians of Catalunya," drawing inspiration from heroes, vigilantes, and popular superheroes. In 2016, the "Invance undecided" series emerged in collaboration with artist Romaric Mandelblat, integrating the history of art and painting into compositions centered around still life. This work, showcased in numerous private and museum exhibitions, explores the confusion between painting and photography. The subsequent "Creatures" series is a ramification of this exploration.

In 2022, Steve ventured into China ink on arches paper, marking the inception of the "Ink et gold" series. Many drawings within this series are created during his hikes and are enhanced with golden glitter collected from certain rivers during his gold panning sessions.
