Chowwai Cheung

Born in 1969, Chowwai Cheung is a British artist living and working in Devon. Chowwai is known for her limited edition collagraphs - a form of printmaking made by hand - inspired by the landscape of Southwest England. Led by her fascination with rock formations, Chowwai creates geometrical scenes that explore and emphasise the boundaries between shape and form and the tensions between depth and surface.

Chowwai Cheung’s Style and Practice

Chowwai trained at Manchester Metropolitan University in Printed Textiles and graduated with a first-class BA Honours. Her works are a visual exploration of landscapes; the hard-edged shapes, the soft translucent tones, and uneven textures. Through her intuitive layering of ink and acrylic, Chowwai captures movement and the evolving structures of buildings, rocks, bridges and in-between spaces. The artist is also celebrated for her abstract collection of collages and paintings, influenced by memories of rural landscapes and glimpses of fleeting moments spent in nature.

Shows and Commissions

Chowwai has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions. Her work has been selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Royal West of England Academy and the National Open Print Exhibition. She is also the continual recipient of commissions from corporations and private clients worldwide.
