Miguel Ripoll
Generative AI and digital pioneer, technologist, and writer Miguel Ripoll began experimenting with combinatorial algorithms and creative code back in 1999 – his early digital pieces (exhibited in major institutions like the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, and the Cervantes Institute) are now in the permanent collection of the Design Museum in Barcelona – but he became frustrated by the limitations of the technology available at the time and decided to pause artistic practice entirely.

CODE AS ART

In the last two decades, instead, he became an expert in the design and coding of data-driven digital interfaces, continuing to explore the creative possibilities of AI and algorithms in award-winning projects for global brands and top cultural institutions. His commercial work (digital, print, film, and theatre design) has been featured in books and magazines worldwide.

MADE WITH AI, NOT BY AI

Since 2021, Miguel's practice combines human-led AI iterative adversarial dialogue (based on custom datasets) with hand-crafted mixed digital media. The resulting visual elements are manually edited, digitally modified, and re-mixed into a single image, which is then printed on hand-finished large-scale archival-grade canvas or paper. All digital files get deleted, and only one physical object remains – a hybrid of centuries-old traditions and the latest technology driven by a uniquely original human vision.
