Melinda Matyas

Melinda Matyas is a contemporary figurative artist based in London, UK, she earned her BFA in Painting in 2009 from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca.

Her artistic journey is rooted in the traditions of Eastern European art, where she grew up and studied painting. However, the primary driving force behind her work is her interest in Analytical Psychology, particularly the quest to understand the sources that imbue life with meaning. This exploration of the human psyche, with its myriad layers and complexities, is a major influence on her creative expression.

At the heart of her work is a focus on the human condition and the internal experiences that shape our existence amidst the external pressures and expectations imposed by society. She is fascinated by the contrasts and conflicts that arise within us as we navigate these demands, and her art seeks to capture and reflect these inner worlds. In her creative process she places equal importance on colour and form, through colour she aims to evoke specific feelings and moods, and through deconstruction of forms she strives to find a harmonious balance between figuration and abstraction. This approach allows her to explore and express the fluidity and ambiguity of human identity and experience.

Ultimately, her art is an exploration of the inner landscapes that define us, it is a journey where she seeks to uncover and communicate the essence of what it means to be human.
