More Works by Ewelina Skowronska
Ewelina Skowronska
Ewelina Skowronska is a printmaker, sculptor and visual artist based in Tokyo. Ewelina creates work that explores the female form in a style that merges abstract elements with a figurative approach. Whether dissecting the female body, studying the nude or focusing on the more unspoken aspects entwined with the female experience, Ewelina seeks to make art that shows the depth and nuances of femininity.

Ewelina Skowronska’s Career

Born in Poland in 1980, Ewelina enjoyed a successful career in advertising before deciding to pursue a career as an artist in 2012. Ewelina studied an MA in Visual Arts at Camberwell College of Arts, London and since then has shown her work across Japan, the UK, the USA, Poland and beyond. Her work has gained her international attention from the public and critics alike and she has won a host of awards, including the Print Prize by ST Bridge Foundation in 2017. Ewelina is perhaps most well known for her screenprints and etchings.

Style and Colour

Ewelina follows a fairly limited palette, primarily using muted colours and quiet tones to give her work a poetic stillness. Even when working in mixed media, Ewelina keeps her compositions considered and refined, giving her figures a balletic quality. However, Ewelina does not just focus on the subject matter of the female form, and by giving weight to negative space, she gestures towards the unspoken aspects of female physicality.
