More Works by Sarah Emily Porter
Sarah Emily Porter
Award-winning British abstract installation artist Sarah Emily Porter explores the complexity of colour, composition and form. Sarah is a graduate of Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, Slade School of Art, UCL, and Durham University. She currently works from her East London studio.

Sarah Emily Porter’s Experimentations With Colour

By pouring paint on tilting structures, Sarah sensitively shapes a dialogue between art and science as the colour flows in a single linear stroke under the force of gravity. Sarah, therefore, removes the 'artist's hand' from the gesture and emotion of painting. Our attention is, instead, diverted to the complexity of colour and the intricacies of her materials. Her considerate yet experimental approach opens up unlimited artistic outcomes, creating a tension between what was and could be. Sarah is also the author of various sculptures and abstract installation pieces which similarly explore the anatomy of colour. The systems she uses to create her works are often inspired by geometric patterns found in architecture.

Awards, Exhibitions and Press

Sarah has been featured in a wide variety of top publications, including the Londonist, Deezen, Timeout London, Architects Journal and the London Festival of Architecture. The artist has received several prestigious awards. To name a few: Winner of the London Festival of Architecture City Benches Competition 2019, Winner of the Richard Seager Annual Arts Award 2019 and Winner of the Broomhill National Sculpture Prize 2018. Sarah has exhibited extensively across the UK, including multiple showcases at The Other Art Fair in London.
