Alban works with mixed media to create vibrant and imaginative artwork. Inspired by pop art, and working on distressed surfaces, Alban references everything from film to politics in each of his unique pieces of art.
Also working in mixed media, Martin Thompson layers paintings, drawings and photographs to create evocative and atmospheric prints.
Transport and auto art depicts either moving or stationary vehicles, or parts of vehicles. Since its invention in 1903, the airplane marked the beginning of the new age, symbolising innovation, speed, flight and the power of the machine. The Italian art movement Futurism formed at the dawn of the century, and with its second phase in 1926, artists began to respond to the beauty of flight. The Futurists often saw airplanes as a mode of dance, and just as a car would glide at high speed, an airplane would dance through the sky.
The Futurists’ praised ‘the beauty of speed’ and motifs such as wheels, tyres and machinery denoted progress and a look to the future in modern art. Machines, cars and airplanes glorified industrialisation and movement, and the airplane was the ultimate symbol of speed.
