Phil Illingworth has exhibited in the UK, the USA, China, and in Europe including the 53rd Venice Biennale. His works have been selected for the John Moores Painting Prize, the Marmite Prize IV, and the Jerwood Drawing Prize. In addition to private collections, his works are held in public collections in the UK and China, including the Art UK public art collections database. In 2019 his work joined the collection of the Yale Center for British Art, USA.
Other notable international exhibitions include 'Contemporary Masters From Britain' which toured to four major art museums across China, and 'Made In Britain – 82 Painters of the 21st Century' at The National Museum, Gdansk, Poland, where he also gave a presentation on his practice at the Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts.
Illingworth transforms humble materials into the unexpected. He describes his practice as experimental, yet he is known for his exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail, and levels of finish which are often hard to imagine are made by a human hand.
He is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors and a member and advisory board member of Contemporary British Painting.
