Gawain Barnard is a Welsh Photographic artist whose work merges a documentary style with poetic sensibilities to create a constructed visual narrative. Whether through long-term projects that adopt the familiar scope of landscape and portrait to construct a semi-fictionalized chronicle or via the individual image that is created as a lyrical portrait, his work has an individual yet strong aesthetic.
In 2021 his work was selected for the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, in 2013 he was the winner of the 2013 Aneurin Morgan Thomas award for best artwork from Wales as part of the National Art Open, and was a featured artist of the 2014 Eisteddfod. He is the recipient of Arts Council awards and his work has been shown nationally and internationally and is part of numerous private collections.
