Lisa Carter Grist's paintings appear abstract but infer fragments of landscape and figuration. She concentrates on looking and recognising evidence of spontaniety rather than determining subject matter, each mark, texture and colour treated as found. ‘I am fascinated by the endless associativity that painted and drawn marks evoke. The paintings are often found in and out of frustration and destruction and in this way some paintings hold a number of other paintings under their skin and others just arrive as if they made themselves'.
Lisa Carter Grist (b.1972, Cardiff) lives and works in North Wales. She graduated from Central Saint Martin’s, London (1994).
