Curated by Cecile Martet
The works in this collection all represent a different element of Andy Warhol's style, from his use of bright colours, obsession with celebrity, and interest in consumerism.
The child of Austro-Hungarian parents and born in Pennsylvania in 1928, Andy Warhol would reach new heights of celebrity and influence during his short life. Not just a painter, but a sculptor, musicia, film director, photographer, and writer too, Warhol’s reputation exceeded what might have been expected of a commercial illustrator from Pittsburgh. His studio The Factory has become known worldwide as a meeting ground for some of the world’s best creative minds, and as a hotspot for LGBTQIA+ individuals to express themselves.
The Andy Warhol Edit collects together artwork on Rise Art that captures an essence of Warhol, whether it be through the Pop Art style, colour choices, or an interest in celebrity and kitsch culture. Our curator has put together a selection of paintings, prints and photography that pay homage to the works of Andy Warhol. Each piece in the collection gives a nod to the cultural icon that was Warhol.
