Beschreibung

"People take pictures of each other when the sun is shining, they are joyful, thoughtful, caught in a pivotal moment, one thing before becoming another. Under the veneer of these moments there is an intensity, an undercurrent, things are not what they seem.

Modern day digital overwhelm, the opinions and information we are presented with in a constant torrent can prompt a yearning for a simpler time. We look to the past in a longing for understanding, a reaction against the complexities of modern life, yet the camera presents us with so much more if we stop to look.

Themes of the role of women as wives, mothers, lovers and as children with a great weight of expectation looms large - as does the destiny of men to bravery, to belonging. Using the language of paint with nods to the great storytellers of the past, Degas, Bonnard, Daumier, I unite the experience of being a woman in our time with our complex history as witch, victim and currency."
