More Works by Paul Brouns
Paul Brouns
Fascinated by the interplay between realistic registration and geometric abstraction, Dutch photographer Paul Brouns captures the rhythmic poetry of urban buildings and façades. Alternate realities emerge from his carefully edited images, inviting viewers into Paul's universe of geometry, rhythm and colour.

Paul Brouns' Style and Practice

Paul graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg in 1990, specialising in photography, painting and drawing. Drawn to the abstract elements of architecture, such as the rhythm of windows and the colour of surfaces, Paul photographs isolated sections and characteristics of buildings. Concentrating on the light and details present when photographing, each image offers a lyrical rendition of these architectural structures, re-presenting them as carefully designed urban tapestries. The artist occasionally architects new buildings and impressions by recombining old photographic details, producing new visual stories with a remarkably graphic feel.

Exhibitions and Awards

Paul has exhibited his prints worldwide, from Tokyo, Seoul and New Delhi, to New York, London and Amsterdam, and sold them to numerous collectors. Some previous shows include The Other Art Fair, New York, (USA), 2022; India Art Fair, New Delhi (IN), 2022; First Art Fair, Amsterdam (NL), 2022; and Tokyo Art Fair, Shibuya Hikarie, Tokyo (Japan), 2017. He has been featured in The Guardian, Saatchi Art Catalogue, Bored Panda, LAB Magazine and World of Interiors. Paul received five nominations for the Fine Art Photography Awards and has taken home awards from the Chromatic Photo Awards, Moscow International Photography Awards, and Paris Photo Prize. The artist has exhibited at Palazzo Bembo in Venice during the 2022 Art Biennale. His photographs are available in limited editions.
