Stéphane Peltier

Trained in the 80s, at the time of the "return to painting", Stéphane Peltier remained faithful to this medium, even if there is moreover in practice others, including video and documentary realization.
Little concerned at the start by promoting his work, he never ceased to paint, and travel, spending several years in the Indian Ocean. Returning to mainland France, nourished from these experiences and the otherness of the worlds he has rubbed shoulders, his painting is organized in series which all envisaged these simple questions: what is a place, what what is that the wandering and the imaginary that inhabits the one who leaves; The one who returns? He plunges for this as well in the literary imagination of Oscar Wilde as in the study of medieval Portulans or the decor of classical painting.
He builds a painting that oscillates between welcoming decorative seduction and the concern of a world that seems to leave you on the sidelines, on the threshold. Somewhere, he said "between Paul and Virginia and the Petit Poucet".
