More Works by Iorgos Pavlopoulos
Iorgos Pavlopoulos
Of Greek origin, Ioye, of its real name Iorgos Pavlopoulos, was born in 1974 in the western suburbs of Paris. He discovered graffiti there at the end of the 1980s, marked by the experience of the pioneers of the movement. The tone is thus set, and its leitmotif will be decisive for the rest of its work: the perpetual search for a harmonious, dynamic letter, with games of bright and impactful colors.
Closer to the universe of skate and punk than that of in full expansion hip-hop with Parisian graffiti artists of the time, Ioye demonstrates this natural inclination in the almost metallic tone of its lettering with cutting and sharpened cutting and which Electric colors are the senses.
In 1998, after having studied cabinetmaking and marquetry for 6 years at the Parisian applied art school '' Boulle '', he left to work in Athens for a year, taking advantage of this opportunity to leave his imprint by covering The walls of the Greek capital. The imposing size of its parts causes an immediate visual impact in urban space. His abundant production will also allow him to assert his style and influence, against all odds, a generation of graffiti artists. Back in Paris, he founded "Weside" in 2001, a brand of "Streetwear" of European graffiti artists, of which he will ensure management for almost 10 years.
It is in 2009 that his work on canvas will occupy a more substantial place, also the room of his company will be transformed into a workshop. Drawing his inspiration from his childhood memories, through images, music or perfumes often linked to the culture of his roots, his works soak up an emotional charge buried in the nostalgia of his past. Today he exercises the profession of accessorist at the National Theater of Chaillot, and devotes the rest of his time to painting in his workshop or on external walls, where the opportunity arises.
