More Works by Karo Alexanian
Karo Alexanian
Born under the Soviet era, Karo Alexanian initially drawn his inspiration from Slavic culture and Eastern Europe. He lived 17 years in the Russian capital and deepened his art there by feeding on the riches contained by Moscow museums in Saint-Petersburg.
But in search of new horizons and new cultures, he settled in Quebec, an intermediate place between Europe and North America. He benefited from a freedom of expression which was deprived in the Soviet Union, so to develop his art and disseminate it.
He has joined different Canadian galleries and has been exhibiting his works there for over 20 years. Highly a faith of more cultural and artistic discovery, he came to settle in the south of France, it has been almost 5 years that he lives there and worked there.
Because Karo Alexanian believes in the power of painting and his need to transport our cultural background, he painted based on observation, the study of the environment, the integration of the culture in which he is plunged. He assiduously frequents museums and artistic and cultural centers to return to transpose during the studio work which seems to him to be the primitive essence of humans: the sacred of life. In this sense, he practices metaphysical art.
Karo Alexanian always seeks to reproduce what he sees and what he observes using various lines, color and textures. When he observes a particular subject, he tries to generalize forms, to release the essentials and to transform it into signs. Karo Alexanian wants to combine this sign, make a link with his conventional designation in order to create a new visual and intellectual unit.
Karo Alexanian also tries to highlight the very big link between primitive art and contemporary art. He tries to find in his work a spiritual aspect which he finds absent from the artistic expression of our time by creating works in a contemporary and universal dimension where he renews the use of acrylic and where he makes his letters as nobility at work done by hand. In order to reach true art, an artist must sacrifice himself and lead a life of deep observation with the ultimate goal of delivering to humanity his feeling in the face of nature as well as his knowledge of human essence.
