Birgit Fechner

Birgit Fechner is a German abstract painter. Inspired by the contrast between Munich and Berlin, nature and roughness, she places opposing emotions alongside each other in vibrant, rhythmic abstract works. Her recurring motifs include nature and transience, beauty and destruction, colour, movement and the fullness of life, infusing each painting with a meaning beyond the aesthetic.

Her style is characterised by a collage-like technique, building up and subtracting layers of oils, glazes, and transparent materials - the latter serving to reveal what lies under the surface. In this way, Birgit draws out the complexity of life, giving form to the contradictions and difficulties of assessing and categorising reality. From her paintings, smaller paper and ceramic works often arise too. Catchy, intense colours reflect moods and intuition, testifying to the liveliness and beauty of the moment of creation.
