Ian Hoskin

Ian Hoskin was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1955. In the mid 70s, the artist decided to travel overland to India. With him, he took an old Ilford camera and a bag of Tri-X film. Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal followed.

Pursuing this early fascination with photography and an increasing need to Photograph, Hoskin went on to study Fine Art in Sheffield, graduating in 1981. He went on to work professionally as a freelance photographer for BBC Television, whilst continuing his own photographic projects, originally working with film and print in the darkroom and then digitally.

The subjects that inspire Hoskin are those that involve the viewer in a moment that might have otherwise been overlooked, and in subject matter that could be seen as mundane. Through his on-going portrait series he continues to examine seemingly homogenous groups of people.
