Brigid McGivern

Brigid McGivern studied Studio Art at Xavier University and Visual Communications at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been shown in New York at Vanderplas Gallery, Agora Gallery, Dacia Gallery, Solas Studio, and Ashok Jain Gallery. She regularly participates in art fairs such as Miami Basel and New York Art Expo and has also completed multiple residencies at Solas Studio in New York. Her work has been published in the Wall Street Journal, New York ArtBeat, and ArtTour International Magazine as well as featured by the Rockefeller Foundation for Impact videos.

McGivern pairs her design composition experience with her love of painting and drawing to create large scale works on canvas and panel. She uses multiple layers of paint to generate texture, infusing life into her work. Words are used to free-associate and create layers of paint, similar to the act of journaling. When painted over, the words, varying brush stroke sizes and speeds are evident in the final work. Her pieces carry the viewer’s eye in a circle, mirroring the artist’s process.
