François Sahuc is a French artist and architect. After studying at the Beaux Arts in Paris, he opened his agency in the Marais district and frequented life drawing studios. He finds his style: a dynamic, spontaneous drawing done from life. The curves of his silhouettes are round and elongated, the line is always powerful and emphatic, sometimes vibrant. His drawings are the result of poses with female or male models from whom he manages to quickly capture the essence of movement and the personality of the model. The artist works in his loft studio in Clamart, a quiet place bathed in light conducive to concentration and creativity. He uses mainly warm colors like red, orange, brown, ochre, and then works on volumes and shadows. Like a sculptor, he refines the mass by gradually defining the volumes. He then revisits some backgrounds with oil or pastels. His drawings made on different papers are glued onto canvases. His works are alive; they suggest the body more than they depict it in detail; without eyes or mouth. From these almost unreal characters, drawn from his imagination, a certain sensual atmosphere emerges. His silhouettes, with generous shapes and warm colors, are strikingly contrasted with their creator, an artist with a discreet charm and a rather frail athletic physique. But isn’t it said that opposites attract?
