Self-taught and a full-time artist for over a decade, Félix Hemme has developed a unique artistic identity marked by a consuming passion for painting and creation.

Félix Hemme: A Distinctive Technique

His obsession with art is expressed through a distinctive technique he calls "gratté." This innovative process involves deliberately altering the surface of the canvas—and more recently, his sculptures—at a specific point in the creative process, highlighting the most intense brushstroke.

This destructive surface approach aims to unveil what lies "beneath" the oil painting, whether it is the canvas itself, an underlying color, a drawing, an image, or volume. By exploring these hidden layers, Félix Hemme aspires to reveal profound truths, perhaps even his own identity.

Navigating Between Figuration and Abstraction

The repetitive motif he employs, evoking waves, clouds, hills, or scales, invites free interpretation from the viewer. This freedom allows him to navigate effortlessly between figuration and abstraction. Currently, his drawing and the forms of his sculptures are intentionally reduced to their simplest expression, thereby enhancing the impact of his works.
