Born in 1975, Jonas Nemeth is a Swedish portrait painter working in a Pop Art style. Jonas, who lives and works in Helsingborg, works across painting, film and writing - creative practices that have been with him since childhood.
Jonas Nemeth's Style and Practice
Although Jonas loves to experiment with new techniques and materials, his signature medium is oil paint. He uses his style, which meanders between Pop Art, realistic and abstract, to communicate specific feelings. Through his paintings, he wants to encourage the onlooker to ask questions about the person in the portrait. For example, what happened before or after? Why is the character positioned that way? What is the person thinking about, and why are they in that situation? All his paintings are unique and take inspiration from writers, artists and filmmakers like Dante Alighieri, Tomas Tranströmer, Francis Bacon, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Vittorio De Sica and Ingmar Bergman.
