Glasgow-based artist David Gilliver delves into captivating miniature worlds and luminous landscapes through his macrophotography and light painting series. Graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 2001, Gilliver specialises in capturing suspended moments and intriguing visual narratives using tiny figurines and long-exposure techniques. His work, both playful and poetic, is exhibited regularly across the UK and internationally, captivating audiences with its intricate details and emotional depth.
Gilliver is best known for his "Little People" series, where he stages miniature figures in realistic or surreal settings. These photographs create complex microcosms that play with scale and perspective, evoking both wonder and reflection.
His mastery of macrophotography brings these tiny characters to life, allowing him to tell stories through meticulously crafted scenes. This series has earned him numerous accolades, including the British Photography Award in the Macro category in 2022 and 2023.
In addition to his "Little People" work, Gilliver is a skilled light painting artist, using light sources to create drawings in the dark. His work in this field has been showcased worldwide, including collaborations with brands such as Sony, Lexus, and Samsung.
A passionate educator, Gilliver frequently runs creative photography workshops, both online and in person, and partners with schools and colleges to introduce young people to these innovative artistic techniques.
