Lisa Kellner

Lisa Kellner is a contemporary American painter who explores the relationship between humans and the natural world. Working with oils, Lisa creates paintings that have a poetic abstract quality to them, entwined with hints of recognisable objects and scenery. Lisa works with a refined palette of muted greens, earthy browns and natural hues to gesture at untouched and remote natural landscapes.

Lisa Kellner’s Career

Lisa started off as an artist in New York City in 1996 and soon after she began exhibiting her work across the country. For over 20 years, Lisa has shown work in Florida, New York, Maine and Pennsylvania and has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, the Washington Post and Sculpture Magazine. Lisa has lived in the US, Europe, Australia and Jamaica, and she is now based on a small island off the coast of Maine.

Practice

Lisa tends to work on a series of paintings at any one time. Often led by a certain theme or topic, working on many paintings at once allows Lisa to spread her ideas across the body of her work. Lisa describes her style as “teetering between the real and the abstract”. The artist layers and builds an environment within each painting, formed of energy, connection and perception.
