Renata Fernandez’s depictions of flowers are at once eye-catching and intriguing. The combination of the circular boards she uses with loose and expressive brushstrokes make for works that embody the vitality of the natural world. In AVE del Paraiso No1 and AVE del Paraiso No2, Renata’s limited palette draws focus to the forms that dance across the canvas. Adorning pinks and reds with warms yellows highlights the movement and direction that fuels each piece.
Another artist using colour to reflect the beauty of nature’s flora and fauna is Karenina Fabrizzi. Merging floral art with portraiture, Karenina’s work emits a sense of whimsical wistfulness and hovers on the idea of memories. Consisting predominantly of pinks, greens and greys on faded backgrounds, each of Karenina’s pieces use flowers to gesture at the absence of a figure. Her titles echo her poetic approach to form pieces that are as beautiful as they are absorbing.
Portraying flowers in an entirely different way is Mark Buckley. Mark’s abstract style alludes to so much more than simply the appearance of flowers. The regular form of Mark’s drawings hint at something which is ongoing, whilst resembling the internal make up of a living being. Radiating life and energy, Mark’s drawings pull the viewer in and prompt us to consider the internal make up of all living organisms, including ourselves.
