New & Noteworthy Artist
Steven Buckler is known for his impressionistic landscape paintings and illustrations.
Steven mixes deep earthy tones and turbulent textures to create raw and unpolished rural scenes.
In previous lives, Steven trained as an animator at The Surrey Institute of Art and worked as an animator in children’s television.

Falmouth University MA student Steven Buckler shares his time between illustration and fine art painting. His rural landscape paintings stand out for their rich colour and depth. He does not just capture the landscape; he takes you there.

Steven Buckler's Painting Style

Steven manoeuvres a loose and expressionistic style to portray nature in all its glory. There is an unapologetic honesty to Steven's paintings. As opposed to romanticising the world around us, Steven looks to honour the forgotten, the crumbling and the obsolete. The artist laces deep earthy tones and raw and turbulent textures with hope and light, hinting at resolution. His animation background edges into his work too, with ink, charcoal and varnish on paper and paint dressing his pieces with a noticeably graphic touch.

Exhibitions and Illustrations

Steven has enjoyed several successful solo exhibitions and has shown work with The Royal Scottish Academy, The South West Academy of Fine Art and the St. Ives Society of Artists. The artist has also illustrated numerous books, the most recent being Song For The Forgotten by Cornish author Natasha Carthew and published by National Trust Books.
