Susan Thompson is an abstract painter based in London, UK
Susan's interest in art started in childhood and has stayed with her throughout her working life. She has spent the majority of her working life nursing but that desire to be creative has pushed her to engage in some form of art-making and further education in conjunction with her nursing. This has included an Art Foundation Course at the Camberwell School of Art in 1984, an Art Therapy Postgraduate Diploma at Goldsmiths College in 1990 and more recently, a BA Hons Fine Art Degree at Oxford Brookes University in 2014.
As a nurse and artist, she considers the disciplines of nursing and art to be interconnected. The art of nursing is the intentional creative use of oneself, based upon skill and expertise to transmit emotion and meaning to another. She feels that this can be applied to art. The artist attempts to convey a myriad of emotions and experiences through their creations.
She works mostly in acrylics but also uses inks, charcoal and oils to create improvised abstract paintings. Her process can be described as experimental, taking inspiration from external and internal references and experiences.
The colours in nature act as a catalyst for her compositions. There are also references to landscapes, structures and patterns.
