French painter Philippe MARLATS, inspired by the formal language of 20th-century figurative and abstract expressionists, explores two counterpoint and complementary themes: the Fall of Man and Woman as an illustration of Nature. The Fall of Man resonates with the Genesis episode, but beyond the biblical allegory, its semantics extend further, illustrating the artist's intimate inquiry into man's place in life, the universe, and his relationship with humanity, perpetually confronted with Good and Evil.
In spirituality and esotericism, the feminine represents one of the two poles of humanity and, beyond that, one of the two essential cosmic forces. The feminine embodies spontaneous vital energy, a kind of immanent power, while the masculine represents the transcendent organizing principle. The symbolism of the woman or the feminine must be approached according to the principle of balance and complementarity with the masculine. Neither superior nor inferior to the masculine, the feminine is destined to harmonize with it to structure the universe.
