James MacKeown, an Irish painter born in 1961, grew up between Ireland, England, Turkey, and Wales, multicultural experiences that enrich his artistic perspective today. Grandson of the Irish painter Tom Carr, James MacKeown has been immersed in a creative environment since childhood. At 15, his works were already exhibited in Ireland and the United Kingdom, an early recognition that confirms his talent.
Although accepted into several art schools, he chose to forge his own path, inspired by the advice of the artist William Coldstream, a family friend. James MacKeown settled in Normandy near Étretat in 1988, before moving to Brittany, where he currently lives in Côtes-d'Armor.
The painting of James MacKeown, influenced by impressionism, is distinguished by its soft atmosphere and intimate life scenes. He captures the poetry of everyday moments with a subtle palette and vibrant touches. His compositions include seascapes, café scenes, and beaches, evoking a certain luminous melancholy.
His works are part of prestigious collections such as those of the National Library of Wales or the Colas Foundation. James MacKeown regularly exhibits in France and abroad, notably in Paris, Geneva, and Dublin.
