Sophie Barthélémy

Sophie Barthélémy has chosen softness in her work. Aware of the complexity of the world, she lives in the bubble of her painting, keeping herself away from the trends of contemporary art. Her art, which has its roots in a life close to nature, develops around this theme that can be found through series such as Ode to Gaia, the Refuges, the Meditations... Figures and nature coexist on some canvases, reminding us that Man and Nature share a common destiny. But beyond this concern that she has chosen to evoke poetically, her work increasingly emancipates itself from the desire to be understood in order to enter into the unspeakable of creation. "I am a figurative painter but I am making more and more incursions into abstraction. I do not know what I am pursuing and sometimes, returning to a recognizable subject reassures me. But I feel that painting calls me towards something else. It is this unknown that represents the adventure of painting."
