Marianne De Roo

Marianne De Roo is a Belgian artist. She has always been drawing and while doing this, she has created her own version of the real world. In her adulthood she decides to go to the Art Academy in order to learn the techniques behind drawing and painting. She obtains her degree in drawing and subsequently her degree in painting. Since then, she has established herself as a full-time artist. She is drawn to the intricate and subtle art of portraiture. At the same time, her interest in botanical elements and vegetation grows. She has an innate attraction to settings and how a certain emptiness can be brought into an image. This contrasts with the art of portraiture.

Those two main arteries feed her work.

In 2023 Marianne De Roo finalised an art project that took her several years to complete. Through an open call, she invited and photographed 73 women in her atelier with the sole purpose of painting their portrait. Years later, all 73 portraits were ready to be exhibited in a single exhibition in Leuven, Belgium. The result was a great success.
