After studying art in Paris, a few years of teaching and graphic design, Anne Mourat returns to sculpture as she approaches her forties, during her "African years." In 2008, back in France between two expatriations in Senegal, she begins to present her work in salons, artistic meetings, and galleries; she exhibits as a permanent artist in several galleries, both in Africa and in Europe and the USA. She is definitively back in France in 2021 and, in 2023, after a period of slowed artistic activity, finds her way back to creation in her "studio/gallery" in Provence. Her works are mainly bronze casts from clay models. For several years, she has also been offering her original terracotta works for sale (which can be the subject of bronze casts). Anne Mourat calmly claims a classic figurative representation approach in form – with some "fantasies" in disproportions – in the service of celebrating humanity in all its power and fragility. She is currently working on a series titled "Women/Objects." Her models pose with an object of their choice. This also guides their pose, allowing them to refocus on the essential, detached from any external gaze. A striking life force is revealed in each of these women – which she tirelessly attempts to elevate, sculpture after sculpture.
