Andy Jon Morris

Andy Jon Morris (b.1976) is an Australian lens-based visual artist whose atmospheric works resonate with a sense of wanderlust and solitude. Abandoning objectivity, Morris examines the harmonious relationship between an outward and inward journey, thereby creating a transitional space for contemplation.

Travelling extensively by motorbike across the world during his formative years, Andy associated these solo adventures with a purity of freedom and developed a fertile imagination of the world he sought to experience.

“I am drawn to mystery, uncertainty, the intangible. There is a feeling of romance and hope in not knowing what is around the next corner or over the next hill. Nothing is assumed and everything is possible. This is where the beauty lies for me.”

The self-taught artist’s practice involves lens blur and multi-layered compositions derived from source images that he captures on medium format film. The direction his work takes is largely dependent on instinct and emotion as he actively seeks to distance himself from any constraints that concept may dictate.

Born in England, raised in Australia, Morris currently resides in Hossegor, France, a base from which he explores the European continent in pursuit of his works. Sharing his time between commercial and fine art photography since 2005, he now works solely as an artist.
