Susan's retro-coloured snapshots of beach house life would bring colour and liveliness to an interior.
Susan Schmidt is an award winning Australian artist who paints contemporary figurative works with abstract elements and surprises. Underpinned by a concern for the environment, sustainable living and the value of a more simple life. Susan's 'Seaburbia' series explores the cultural memory and heritage of the Australian beach house. Painted in acrylic and oil these works are patterned, layered and rubbed back to achieve a weatherworn texture that recalls erosion of matter over time. These nostalgic pieces document the essence of coastal living that's being lost to time and development.
The artist trained at the School of Art and Craft, Adelaide, and worked as an illustrator and designer before turning her focus to painting. She has exhibited in solo and group shows internationally, in London, New York, California, Hong Kong, Istanbul and Singapore. By invitation Susan was resident resident artist the One & Only Reethi Rah, Maldives.
Creating from her Noosa Heads studio, Susan's works are exhibited, selected and collected nationally and internationally.
