Day Bowman’s abstracted paintings explore geopolitics, borders, boundaries and migration. Raised in the West Country on the coast, her work is grounded in both the land and the outlying ocean as celebrated in her Seaside Citadels and Marking the Boundary series. Her work treads the boundary between abstraction and figuration creating complex works full of movement and colour. Earth & Angels, a duo show with Gerry Judah and curated by Jenny Blyth at 30 Fenchurch Street, Bishopsgate, City of London was much praised by Brookfield Properties. A number of these works are now available on the Rise Art website.
DAY BOWMAN: EARLY CAREER AND PRACTICE
Studied at Chelsea School of Art and London University. Day’s painting is
characterised by chaotic mark-making, explosive colour, ribbon-like lines and spills of paint. Gestural brushstrokes, an atmospheric palette, as can be seen in her latest series Marking Out the Boundaries, and use of mixed media such as charcoal and conte oil paint on canvas all contribute to the strong and arresting works.
