Amanda Rackowe

A moment never lasts, it is there, just take it. Hold, let go. To engrave, behind our eyes, to burn, in our souls. To remember, for a moment. To forget it then. One moment. Here. And he leaves. This is the fundamental conceptualization expressed in the work of Amanda Rackowe.
His exploration of the transitional exchange of human existence at specific moments, brings us into an atmosphere of semi surrealism, where his images evolve between figuration and abstraction. This atmosphere, sometimes sketched out, reflects its concerns with the fragility of the moment and space, and their transitional nesting. Conscious crossings of lives and memories exist in the scenes where the spectator is present, but rarely involved.
This torpid and involuntary invasion, although being a physical involvement, is fragmented. There is no glimpse, no new revelation on the ego or the interior consciousness of one or the other. Working in several layers of paint, using wash and glacis, the artist builds a richness and a depth of color.
Spontaneous marks and paint flows, deliberately encouraged, give life to work, echoing the determined and random possibilities of the voyage of life (in) exhaustible. An underlying primary red, a nod to the hot core of the earth, dominates its palette. His choice of colors moves in the tones of blue, turquoise and crimson, with deep and yellow ocher.
Although his love of color is obvious, his fascination for light is also obvious in all his work. Faced with his work, we are asked to examine and question the apparently banal experiences of life. Amanda Rackowe lives and works mainly in Dordogne in the southwest of France, and shares her time with her beloved island of Oléron on the Atlantic coast. His work is regularly the subject of exhibitions throughout France and is widely collected in Europe, the United States and Australia.
