Christopher Tansey (b.1970 Kingston Upon Hull, UK) graduated from LJMU in 1998.
Tansey has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally. Recent selected
exhibitions include BEEP Painting Prize and Without Borders International Touring
Exhibition (Japan, Norway, Italy, USA, Canada), Terrace Gallery and Blue Shop
Gallery London, Messums North, Bankley Gallery and PS Mirabel Manchester and
Manchester Art fair, Leeds Summer Show and Newcastle Contemporary. Christopher currently teaches painting at Feral Art School, Kingston Upon Hull.
Tansey's paintings are autobiographical and introspective, drawing upon existence,
experience, consciousness and sentience to express largely emotive responses
through the use of vaguely identifiable elements, forms and motifs. His work is also
an exploration of the 'isness' of painting and paintings. Questioning, meaning-and
understanding are very much part of his creative process. Tansey’s most recent body of work includes a series of Letter paintings - Letters to existence, experience,
person and place.
