Jinsheng You is a contemporary Chinese artist whose abstract landscape paintings are brimming with life and vitality. His timeless works hark back to mid-century masters of the art world while attesting to Jinsheng’s unique and personal practice.
Jinsheng’s Education and Inspiration
Jinsheng’s artistic journey began at a very early age. His father taught him how to paint when he was a young boy, paving the way for a prolific career in the arts world. The artist has worked as a professional painter since graduating from art school in 1999. Jinsheng is a big fan of Guanzhong Wu, perhaps one of the most famous contemporary Chinese painters. Guanzhong was inspired by the Western style of Fauvism and the Eastern style of Chinese calligraphy. A similar blend of Eastern and Western elements can be seen in Jinsheng’s paintings which combine properties from impressionist, abstract, traditional Chinese art and more.
Style and Approach
Sinuous shapes, bright colours and organic forms characterise Jinsheng’s work. Inspired by the beauty of nature and oriental culture, many of his paintings depict the plants and flowers growing in his own garden. Using rich oriental colour palettes of royal reds, whites and golds, avid brushstrokes and decorative detail evocative of Art Deco designs, his statement oil paintings, such as Chaos 672, have the ability to energise any interior.
