Olga Shcheblykina

Ukrainian visual artist Olga Shcheblykina creates abstract and expressionistic paintings paintings, installations and photographic works. Olga uses vivid palettes and unsettled textures to communicate her inner life and explore themes of sensitivity, vulnerability, corporeality and feminism. Feelings of loneliness, isolation, and terror take shape through mixed-media experimentation and spontaneous colour play.

Born in 1986, Olga studied at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK. She is currently pursuing further education at the University of Arts Linz, Austria. Using art as a form of self-expression, Olga pays special attention to maintaining spontaneity in her practice. Using vivid palettes and unsettled textures to communicate the inner life and explore themes of sensitivity, vulnerability, corporeality and feminism. On top of her signature dark background, which creates depth and shadow in her expressionist works works, the artist roughly and intuitively layers colour and texture to create a sense of motion. Fleshy, biomorphic shapes morph and seep out of the canvas; oil paints embodying the release of suppressed emotions.

Olga participated in group exhibitions in art spaces in Greece, UK, and Austria. In 2022, she took part in the online residency program "Bonfire". In 2015, Olga worked with Tobias Zielony at the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2022 Olga has been represented by Galerie Rudolf Leeb in Vienna, Austria. Olga's works are in private collections in Austria, Germany, the UK, Canada, the USA, Hong Kong, etc. In January 2023, one of the artworks was purchased by the Lentos Art Museum, Linz, Austria.
