Not sure where to start? One of our favourite artists working in geometric abstraction is Prague-based artist Lucie Jirku. Her compositions are inspired by nature – landscapes, forests, mountains and plants – which she says give her an ‘energetic mental recharge.’ Her paintings are strong additions to any collection and will add a modern touch to a room.
Long before geometric abstraction became a movement in Europe, Islamic art used geometric patterns to visually connect spirituality with science and art. Ndebele is another type of abstract geometric pattern from southern Africa, which was painted on the outside of Ndebele people’s homes. In Europe, geometric abstraction was influenced by its use in African, Asian and Middle Eastern art, and became a fully-fledged art movement in the 20th century.
